2006 Olympics

By v_marble - Posted on 15 February 2006

So I am kind of surprised that no one has posted anything about this.

Who has been watching?
]
So sad, Michelle Kwan is out. I cried. So did Court.

Go John Weir!!

Did you see the pair skating and how that one Chinese girl got hurt but she finished their routine and they got the silver. How amazing was that?

Well I'll let you all go to town on this subject.

Yeah I heard about MIchelle Kwan. I liked her. I think she skated once to a song from "Mulan" D .

Speaking of which, now I think she is going to be a Disney spokeswoman. right?

I'm so sad that we didn't medal last night in men's figure skating! I have been watching them the whole time!

Just hide it on there somewhere they won't find it!-Justin

Justin must not know us very well! We find anything out we can about JR!

I watch the Olympics whenever possible. It's kinda hard though cuz I usually have dance whenever it's on.

Holy cow I was so bummed about michelle kwan! Her last chance to win a gold.... :( and she worked so hard to actually get to the olympics. ah man.

I'm still sad about Michelle Kwan...it just won't be the same without her at the Olympics...but yeah, she is the new spokeswoman for Disney. And yes, she did skate to a song from Mulan...in her Disney special that she did a few years ago. And she did a voice for a character in Mulan 2.

hmm I've been watching a little bit of it... mostly the ice skating. That's the most interesting to me :)

I've been watching when Apolo Anton Ohno :D competes too. Too bad about his first run. I hope he gets at least one medal. I try to catch it as much as I can too.

Did anyone see the Ice Dance on Sunday? It was the Original Dance. I can't believe that SO many people fell! You rarely EVER see falls in Ice Dance, I was quite surprised! Glad with how Belbin & Agosto did though, they represented our country well!

And what about the Italians! That glare she gave her partner after they fell...I can't believe that they didn't even talk until after they skated the next night...you could sure feel the tension in their performance though. Perfect example of why there needs to be chemistry between the skaters, otherwise the performances are boring!

Oh, yeah, I could "see" and "feeL" the tension between the two. That's too bad.

Sasha Cohen did so well last night! I was way excited for her. I thought that Emily did alright too. But too bad, that should have been Michelle. Oh well. Hopefully we'll see Michelle again soon.

Michelle is touring with COI again...AND it's coming to Utah again for the first time in years! I can get 2nd row seats, but they cost over $100 and I don't know who would want to pay that to go with me.

I'll see what my other half says and get back to ya.

I heard Sasha Cohen got silver, cause she fell. That kinda sucks. Oh well, she's young enough to come back in another 4 years.

I was actually glad that Michelle Kwan didn't get to compete, I have never liked her. I think that if you don't go to Nationals, you don't go the Olympics...which Michelle didn't, so I don't think she really deserved a spot on the team...

--------------------------------------

I have to disagree with you there Heather...I DO think that if you miss Nationals you shouldn't be allowed to go to Worlds, but the Olympics are something totally different. I mean, look at how many skaters came out of retirement this year just to compete at the Olympics...and some haven't competed in four years! I don't think that just because Michelle wasn't healthy during the Nationals, that she shouldn't have been given a chance...and that goes for every skater. I think Michelle proved to the doctors and judges who allowed her to go that she was healthy and ready to compete.
Also, I'm not sure if it works the same way for the Olympics as it does for Worlds...I'm sure it does, but ONLY the National Champion is guaranteed a spot on the team...the US comittee makes the decision on the other two (or one, depending on how many spots we earned.) Traditionally, it IS the top three who go, but that's not always the case...so, all the girls knew their only guarantee of going to the Olympics was to win Nationals. I think Emily understood that, and I saw interviews with a lot of skaters who said that Michelle deserved to compete.

I think that the US committee made a mistake in not sending Emily Hughes over as an alternate, just in case. I think she would have been more prepared for competition if they had. After all, Michelle was the alternate in the 1994 Olympics after the Nancy/Tonya fiasco, and she was over there and ready to go if they needed her.
