Maren Ord
With a career that already boasts accomplishments like songwriting with rock greats Randy Bachman (The Guess Who, BTO) and Jim Vallance (Bryan Adams, Aerosmith), a Juno nomination (a Canadian Grammy), 4 videos, over 30,000 radio spins and song placements in movies like "Crazy/Beautiful" and TV shows like "Alias", "Related", and "Joan of Arcadia", it's no wonder that fans are curious as to what's next for 25 year old Maren Ord.
The answer is quite simple, in more ways than one. With her first two releases Ord explored the various facets of major recording studios and big budget production elements, but with her third effort things have gone in a different, simpler direction. For "Pretty Things", Ord retreated to the quiet mountain town of Orem, Utah where she reinvented her sound to reveal a softer, more acoustic side.
Of the genesis of "Pretty Things", Ord was in total control as she states "I wanted to try out a few ideas that I'd been developing for a while, and kind of explore a new direction." Which is exactly what she did, writing, recording and co-producing the scaled-down album herself.
"I'm really proud of this album because it's the first time I've really been in the drivers seat for the whole experience. The label, my manager, everyone just left me alone and let me do my thing" states Ord "I can't wait to see what fans think."
"She is a more gifted musician than Alanis, sings a lot better than Michelle Branch and writes songs sharper than Pink and Avril combined." -Las Vegas Weekly
